The campaign by President Donald Trump and his adviser Elon Musk to radically（根本上） cut back the U.S. bureaucracy（官僚机构）spread on Feb. 14, firing more than 9,500 workers who handled everything from managing federal（联邦的）lands to caring for military veterans（退伍军人）.

At least 18 people were killed in a stampede（踩踏事件）at a railway station in India's capital of New Delhi on Feb. 16. Many of the victims（遇难者）were Hindu（印度教的） pilgrims（朝圣者）who were traveling to the Maha Kumbh festival（大壶节）in Prayagraj（普拉亚格拉杰，印度北方邦城市）in northern India. Thousands of people gathered at the railway station waiting to board a train. The incident occurred after some passengers slipped and fell on others while coming down from a footbridge that connects train platforms, authorities said.

Kiplimo, 24, finished in 56:42 at the 2025 Barcelona Half Marathon on Feb. 16 — shattering（打破）the previous half marathon record of 57:30 set by Ethiopia's Yomif Kejelcha last year in Valencia. At the time, Kejelcha had narrowly beaten Kiplimo's 2021 record by just one second.

A gold mine collapsed in eastern Mali, with a provisional death toll of 50 and many injured, according to Malian television and officials in the district where the accident occurred. It is the second major accident this year in the West African country, which is one of Africa’s top three gold producers.
